How to write 长 (cháng, “long”)

长, an HSK 2 character, is read cháng for “long” and “length”, and also zhǎng (“to grow”). The traditional form is 長, 8 strokes instead of 4. On its own it is an HSK 2 word; it also forms 校长 (“president”), 家长 (“head of a household”) and 院长 (“the head of an institution whose name ends in 院”). Japanese keeps the traditional 長, read chou (“long”).
