Kanji stroke order lookup

Look up a kanji by the character, its reading or its meaning. Each page animates the strokes in the Japanese school order, lets you trace them, and prints a sheet.

JLPT N5 kanji

79 kanji · 79 with their own page here.

JLPT N4 kanji

166 kanji · 166 with their own page here.

N3, N2 and N1

The upper levels have their lists, quizzes and worksheets now; their characters open in the viewer until their own pages are released, a few hundred at a time.

What each kanji page has

The animation and the numbered frames come from KanjiVG's center lines, so every stroke starts and ends where a teacher would draw it. Readings are from KANJIDIC2, and the word table lists the most frequent JMdict words that contain the kanji, so the first words you see are the ones you will meet first. 23 of the 245 kanji pages here are written differently in Chinese, and those pages show the Chinese order next to the Japanese one.

Every kanji, not only the lists

The JLPT lists cover 2,211 kanji; KanjiVG has strokes for 6,431. Search finds all of them, and any kanji without its own page here opens in the practice viewer, with the same animation, tracing and sheet.
