旅 — how to write the kanji for “trip”
旅 (“trip” and “travel”) is a JLPT N4 kanji taught in third grade in Japan. Its parts: 方 (“direction”, its radical), strokes 1–4; 𠂉 (“person”), strokes 5–6; 亻 (“person”), strokes 7–8, each finished before the next. On its own it is the word tabi, “travel; trip”. Read ryo, it forms 旅行 (“travel”), 旅客 (“passenger”) and 旅館 (“ryokan”); the native reading tabi gives 旅先 (“destination”) and 旅立つ (“to begin a trip”). Chinese reads it lǚ, “trip”, at HSK 2.
