Counted on KanjiVG and KANJIDIC2: the N4 kanji average 8.5 strokes; by Japanese school year, 19 in grade 1, 73 in grade 2, 58 in grade 3, 11 in grade 4, 3 in grade 5, 2 in grade 6. 19 of them have only an on reading in KANJIDIC2, and 122 are also HSK characters (2025 syllabus) in Chinese.
The radicals that recur most here are 人 (“person”), 口 (“mouth”) and 日 (“day”), under which KANJIDIC2 files 9, 8 and 6 of the level's kanji. By newspaper frequency the commonest are 会 (“meeting”), 同 (“same”) and 事 (“matter”); the rarest is 漢 (“Sino-”). 止 (“stop”) has the most readings and 験 (“verification”) the most strokes.
