行 — how to write the kanji for “going”

行 means “going”, “journey” and “carry out”; it is a JLPT N5 kanji, taught in second grade in Japan. In newspapers it is one of the hundred most used kanji (20th). As one of the 214 traditional radicals it heads 20 kanji in KANJIDIC2. On its own it is the word gyou, “line; row”. Read kou, it forms 行動 (“action”), 銀行 (“bank”) and 旅行 (“travel”); the native reading okona-u gives 行う (“to perform”). Chinese reads it xíng, “to walk”, at HSK 3.
