Where 旅 comes from
A man 方 traveling with a pack 氏 on his back
旅 (lǚ), an HSK 2 character, means “trip”, “travel” and “to travel”. It is a character whose parts combine into its meaning. Among the HSK words it appears in 旅游 (“trip”), 旅客 (“traveler”) and 旅馆 (“hotel”). Japanese reads it ryo, “trip”, as a JLPT N4 kanji.
As a left-right character it splits into 方 (“square”, the radical), strokes 1–4; 氏 (“family name”), strokes 7–10, written the left part first.
The two models differ in shape, so our comparison does not claim an order; compare the numbered frames yourself (10 strokes in Japanese, 10 strokes in Chinese).
