How to write 累 (lèi, “tired”)

累, an HSK 2 character, is read lèi for “tired” and “weary”, and also lěi (“to accumulate”) and léi (“used in 累累”). It is HSK 2 in the 2025 syllabus, up from level 1 in the 2021 standard. As a top-bottom character it splits into 田 (“field”), strokes 1–5; 糸 (“fine silk”, the radical), strokes 6–11, written the top first. On its own it is an HSK 2 word; it also forms 积累 (“to accumulate”), 累积 (“to accumulate”) and 累计 (“to calculate the running total”). Japanese reads it rui, “accumulate”, as a JLPT N1 kanji.
