Where 送 comes from
A person waving 关 to someone walking away 辶
送 (sòng), an HSK 2 character, means “to send”, “to give” and “to see off”. It is HSK 2 in the 2025 syllabus, up from level 1 in the 2021 standard. It is a character whose parts combine into its meaning. On its own it is an HSK 2 word; it also forms 发送 (“to transmit”), 赠送 (“to present as a gift”) and 配送 (“to put together an order and deliver it”). Japanese reads it sou, “escort”, as a JLPT N4 kanji.
As a bottom-left wrap character it splits into 辶 (“walking”, the radical), strokes 7–9; 关 (“mountain pass”), strokes 1–6, written the inside first.
Japanese and Chinese draw all 9 strokes in the same order and direction, by our stroke-by-stroke comparison.
