How to write 号 (hào, “to mark”)
号, an HSK 1 character, is read hào for “to mark” and “bugle”, and also háo (“to wail”). The traditional form is 號, 13 strokes instead of 5. On its own it is an HSK 1 word; it also forms 号码 (“number”), 信号 (“signal”) and 挂号 (“to register”). Japanese reads it gou, “nickname”, as a JLPT N3 kanji.
