How to write 有 (yǒu, “to have”)
有 (yǒu), an HSK 1 character, means “to have” and “having”. China and Japan order its strokes differently: Chinese stroke 1, going rightwards, is the 2nd in Japanese schools; Chinese stroke 2, going downwards then down and left, is the 1st in Japanese schools. Dictionaries list it under the radical 月 (“moon or flesh”). On its own it is an HSK 1 word; it also forms 有些 (“some”), 有的 (“some”) and 没有 (“haven't”). Japanese reads it yuu, “possess”, as a JLPT N4 kanji.
