How to write 准 (zhǔn, “accurate”)
准 (zhǔn), an HSK 2 character, means “accurate”, “standard” and “definitely”. It is HSK 2 in the 2025 syllabus, up from level 1 in the 2021 standard. China and Japan order its strokes differently: Chinese stroke 7, going rightwards, is the 8th in Japanese schools; Chinese stroke 8, going rightwards, is the 9th in Japanese schools. On its own it is an HSK 4 word; it also forms 准备 (“preparation”), 准时 (“on time”) and 准确 (“accurate”). Japanese reads it jun, “quasi-”, as a JLPT N1 kanji.
