右 — how to write the kanji for “right”
右 (“right”) is a JLPT N5 kanji taught in first grade in Japan. Its Japanese stroke 1, a left-falling stroke, is the 2nd stroke in the Chinese order. On its own it is the word migi, “right; right-hand side”. Read u, it forms 右翼 (“right wing”), 左右 (“left and right”) and 右派 (“right wing”); the native reading migi gives 右手 (“right hand”) and 右側 (“right side”). Chinese reads it yòu, “right”, at HSK 2.
