How to write ユ (yu) in katakana
ユ (yu) never takes the voicing marks. Its shape keeps a part of the kanji 由 (“reason”). It takes two short strokes: the first from the top left going rightwards then downwards, the last ending at the bottom right. Loanwords that begin with it: ユタ (“Utah”), ユー (“you”), ユダヤ (“Judea (southern Palestine)”) and ユリア (“urea”).
