Where 多 comes from
Two nights 夕, suggesting many
多 (duō), an HSK 1 character, means “many”, “too many” and “... odd”. It is a character whose parts combine into its meaning. On its own it is an HSK 1 word; it also forms 多少 (“how much?”), 好多 (“many”) and 差不多 (“almost”). Japanese reads it ta, “many”, as a JLPT N4 kanji.
As a top-bottom character it splits into 夕 (“sunset”, the radical), strokes 1–3; 夕 (“sunset”, the radical), strokes 4–6, written the top first.
The two models differ in shape, so our comparison does not claim an order; compare the numbered frames yourself (6 strokes in Japanese, 6 strokes in Chinese).
